Why We Budget
Why do we budget? Is it to get out of debt, save up for a house, or something else entirely?
Let’s check a few statistics to help us better understand why budgeting is crucial. According to this article from Market Watch posted in January 2020:
- 74% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck
- One in three will make between $50k to $100k per year
- One in four of these families make $150k per year
- Three out of ten families have no emergency savings at all
This is not okay! At Budgetocity™, we want to break this cycle and help you take control of YOUR finances. How do we do this? We first need to look at why we budget.
In his novel The Canterbury Tales, one of Geoffrey Chaucer’s tales ended in how the love of money is the root of all evil. Now this is important to differentiate. 1 Timothy 6:10 also says “For the love of money is a root for all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
Money is not evil, as it cannot do anything unless we direct it to. The love of money, however, is. Why we budget should not be because we love money and want to have lots of it, it should be because we want to take control of our finances and change our financial futures! Once we have that motivation, getting on a budget and taking control of our finances will start to fall into place.
You are the hero in your story, we’re the tool to help.
The first step to taking control of your finances is to get your Budgetocity account set up and start getting everything categorized.
