Why I Sucked at Budgeting
Budgeting used to be my worst enemy. When the end of the month came around, I feared opening up my bank account to balance the money that I spent vs. what my budget said I was supposed to spend. I can't think of a single time that I didn't go over budget. I would dread having to get out the pad and paper and start filling out my monthly expenses and then start trying to match my income with my expenses. It was all so confusing to me because of the timing of when I get paid vs. a monthly budget, never lining up on the calendar. It just frustrated me, making me not want to do it and ultimately dropping the habit for a long time.
There were 3 main things that I was doing wrong:
- I got stressed out because I had to remember every month what my expenses were
- I didn't track my transactions throughout the month, so I couldn't see my progress through my budget
- The timing of my pay schedule never matched my monthly flow of a budget
And then I found Budgetocity™
Budgetocity has features that help budgeting make sense again to me and are guiding me to financial freedom.
The first feature is The Planner:
The planner allows you to have a schedule of events based on when they happen in your budget period, during the month, and during the year. The planner is integrated directly into the budget so that if you're budgeting and forget something, you'll have a notification letting you know that you forgot something.
The second feature is Transaction Tracking:
Transaction tracking is super important. It's a habit that you need to get into. As you continue to input transactions into Budgetocity, it'll start to prefill out certain fields in the transaction to make it easier to use. Once you save a transaction, your budget is automatically updated so you can stay up to date with exactly how much you have left in each category.
The third and most important feature is Budgeting to your Income:
We've all had that month where nothing lines up. You're trying to budget to the month, but you get paid 3 times, so where does that third paycheck go? Budgetocity helps with that!
For example, I get paid every 2 weeks or 2 paychecks every 28 days. So I now have a budget period every 28 days. This helps by simplifying when my money comes in and when it goes out. And the planner helps tells me exactly what expenses fall within those 28 days making budgeting a breeze!
Budgetocity is so flexible that you set your budget period to however you get paid. Whether that's once a month, twice a month on a set day, every two weeks, or if you get paid a commission every 90 days, Budgetocity will help you make sense of how to budget. Rather than budgeting to your expenses and fitting your income into that, we flip that concept upside down and budget to your income and then align your income to your expenses.
Budgetocity has really allowed me to take back control of my finances. It has allowed me to reach milestones like never before. I have paid off a lot of debt! I have stopped dreading the money conversations! I like budgeting again! But I can't do it with Budgetocity alone. I have to have the discipline and drive to use Budgetocity to help guide me to conquer my financial fears and control my finances. As I continue my journey to financial freedom, I know that Budgetocity will continue to help guide me and keep me accountable to accomplish my goals!
